SUMMER INTENSIVE: recommendations and help

Hey ballerinas and ballerinos (or dancers whichever)
Every ballerina knows that when the normal ballet year ends... summer intensive begins!!
Since i too attend summer intensive. i get how much of a necessity it is to dance.
i personally think summer intensive helps you through two things:
1) technique/progress in ballet
2) having a fun time dancing with old friends or new ones.
here is a short list of  summer intensives. around canada and america:

ORGANIZING FOR SUCCESS

How many of you have so much homework you decide to quit ballet or get home schooled??? Im guessing that more than   of you.
When dancing ballet and looking for a serious job as a ballerina, school life is difficult to maintain.  Most of us quit ballet or decide to get home schooled. When i was in high school quitting or getting home schooled was  not an option, and i agreed with my parents 100%. Home schooling is very expensive and not graduating from high school is not the best either. Here are some ways i would maintain a normal and ballerina life.

  • If you have homework due the next day go to the library during lunch to finish it. If its due for in a couple of days, do a bit everyday.
  • For tests, go over your material even when you dont have a test, For example, if you learned something in science, bring it home the very same day and skim through your notes, that way when you have a test all you'll have to do is review.
  • make a schedule, according to the hours of ballet you have every day, and how long you have to learn.
  • Remember that you can bring homework to your ballet classes, ask your teacher if you may study... if she declines then study during your break (if you have them)
  • When it comes to group projects, things may be difficult, you have to make a schedule before and finish the project the second you get it.
  • For books that you have to read, i would suggest breaks, before each period(class) you have read a bit of your book
  • For oral presentations, just like the 4th pointer, bring it to ballet or go over it a bit each day(1st pointer).
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!!

ARABESQUE

What is an ARABESQUE????
The position of the body supported on one leg with the other leg extended behind the body with the knee straight. The back leg may either touch the floor in tendu back (arabesque parterre) or be raised at an angle of 45o or 90o. When the angle is much greater than 90o and the body leans forward to counterbalance the back leg, the pose is called arabesque penchee. There are also various arm and leg combinations such as forward on the same side as the back leg or the other arm forward.

How to perfect the arabesque?
We all have our weak points some just have a weak leg. What i used to do to strengthen my leg is do the arabesque on the floor. Or simply stretch, squat and do many plies.
We can see in this picture the calf of the leg is fully extended, this is a very IMPORTANT factor. You cannot slack off when doing a complex arabesque.

RUSSIAN BALLET TEACHERS

For any of you out there who have a russian, slovaquian or similar to the russian type of teachers...well dont give up. Without offense to anyother teacher who is not from this area, but the Slovakian and Russians have a better ballet. according to Wikipedia Russian ballet was made in the 19th century. The best, the strongest and the long and beautiful-est... i am currently dancing with a ballerina from Slovakia...and every time i do i learn more. Her pirouettes, plie, fouette and all that is ballet is long and beautiful.

SO TAKE MY ADVICE... these are the most beautiful dancers i have ever seen...and hey! Moscow/bolshoi ballet isnt too far... I THINK!!

combre-back stretching

OK ladies!!! boys!! and whoever is viewing my blog! this is an easy and fun way to get your combre (back "stretch") nice and long. here are the steps:
1)start off with a "start" off make a bridge like in this picture here:http://www.advancedbridging.com/gym1.JPG
2) leave it this way for 2-3 minutes everyday
3)after this exercise if you have a bar or something similar do the same exercise that i posted above
4)leave it like this for 5 mins if you cant you may leave it for the longest you can go (push yourself to go a bit longer every day)
5)after this exercise, this really helps ease your back for a bit: lie down on the floor and make a crab type action or a backwards push up and do the same exersice as the push up and sometimes this feels quite nice like a soothing feeling
6) for the final exercise to increase your combre, you have to actually do it and rotate your head and push your head and go back up and continue this 7 times.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!

Sansha 202c

these are my pointes!!! They are NOT silk but made out of canvas. I heard that many girls aren't able to break them or that they are difficult to use
so here are a few tips:
1) in order to dance in these u have to almost rip them but not fully because that would just lead you to buying a new pair
2) since they arent made out of satin you shouldn't burn the tips of your pointes because that will lead to a disaster
3) smack it on the floor and bend it constantly
4) put hot water on your heel
5)stand on the hard part of your shoe
6)take a sharp utility and dig to a place that helps you go on demi-pointe

if these dont help then write some comments and ill add some helpfull tips!!
